It's Not Over!

First Choice, from Philadelphia, were one of the great disco acts. They had many solid hits including Hold Your Horses, Double Cross, Gotta Get Away, From You Baby, and Let No Man Put Asunder. This track is pretty ubiquitous. It is perhaps the most sampled track in dance music actually (next to the Amen Break.) It was produced in 1977 and pressed to a rare 12." In 1983 it was re-released as a 12" with both Shep Pettibone and Frankie Knuckles remixes. This fine sounding rip is from the rare 12" bootleg EP pictured which features the Shep Pettibone mix. As a bonus, I have added a mighty fine Ron Hardy remix.

Wow...just wow. I've heard a remix of this track on a Jeno mix from the early 90s, but I never realized how influential it is. So many samples came from this one song, didn't they? How did you find that Ron Hardy mix? There's no mention of its release on Discogs - was it ever actually pressed to vinyl?

Thanks for sharing, and I just want to mention that I'm a fan of disco, but a lot of what people dig up sounds cheesy or horribly dated, and somehow you consistently find real gems that stand up after decades of neglect. Peace.

Hey, thanks for the kind words! We do our best to sort through the crap and post the heat.

What I really like about this track is that even the original version is really stripped down for 1977. The track is absolutely iconic. I liberated the Ron Hardy Remix from the internets some time ago.

    good call.
    love your blog :)

the Ron Hardy mix isn't so much of a "mix", as such. it was one of his many unoffical re-edits he did for his DJ sets. still nice though!
